St Martin lies in the Caribbean Sea and is one of the Leeward Islands chain. The northern part is called St Martin and is a dependency of Guadeloupe, an overseas department of France. The southern part is known as St Marten. It is internally self-governed and is part of the Netherlands Antilles.
