It is claimed that the harbour remains open under in all weather conditions, due to a deep trench lying just off shore that reduces swell. Position - 39º 35' N 9º 05' W Tides; Reference port - Lisbon Mean time differences - HW: -20 minutes ±10 ; LW: 00 minutes ±5 Heights in metres -
Charts, Pilots & Cruising Guides - See the following link for Portugal Charts Protection/Shelter - It is claimed that the harbour remains open under in all weather conditions, due to a deep trench lying just off shore that reduces swell. Strong winds, caused by the local hills, affect the harbour. Approach & Entrance; From the south - 4 miles S of Nazare the coast, having been sandy, gives way to rocks. From the north - From Figueira da Foz the coast is low and sandy. At Penedo da Saudade it becomes more broken and backed by low hills. To enter - Pass between the breakwater heads and head for the SW corner of the marina where 3 pontoons will be seen. Berths - Secure to the central hammerhead and await allocation of a berth. Eating Out - Plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes in the town Local Area - Nazare is a good base to visit Abbey Batalha, Fatima, Alcobaca and Caldas da Rainha, all of which can be reached by public transport.
