Digital photos are also very welcome. General - Almerimar Marina is located at El Ejido, on the Mediterranean coast of Andalucia in southern Spain. The facility offers berths, boatyard and a storage operation. This is a very large marina with the capacity for over 1,000 boats. Prices are low. Astonishingly so compared to some other marinas on the Costa del Sol. These low prices though are reflected in the general state of the facility which has a slightly scruffy feel to it. No "slightly scruffy" about the showers though, "grim" is the word. On a more positive note many boats winter here with some returning year after year. The social scene in just great - boules on the beach, pool nights, bridge, poker, ladies coffee morning, a general get together in a bar doing drinks at half price, the list is endless. Open - All year round Hours - Marina 24/7 0ffice - Not known. Formalities - Present Registration, Insurance and Passports to the marina office upon arrival. Contact ; Tel - 950 49 73 50 Fax - 950 49 73 53 Email - info@marina-almerimar.com VHF Ch - 09 Call sign - Position - 36º 42' N 2º 47' W. Charts; - Admiralty - 774 Spanish - Imray - Depths at MLW - 3m. Protection/Shelter - Excellent shelter from everything but strong SW winds when some swell can build up towards the entrance of the harbour. Approach and Entrance - From the West - The coast beyond Adra is both flat and low. Several blocks of flats around the marina can be seen from a good way off. From the East - The lighthouse on Punta de Sabinal is conspicuous. Several blocks of flats around the marina can be seen from a good way off Entrance - Approach the western end of the outer breakwater leaving 30 metre berth, round it and follow the channel marked by two lines of yellow bouys. Go alongside the fuel quay, on the left and ask for a berth at the control tower. Berths & Moorings - It is not known if reservations are required. Maximum length - 60m. Water - On the pontoons. Electric - On the pontoons. Fuel - Diesel & Petrol. Weather forecast - Not known. Security - All the pontoons are open. As at time of writing (Feb. 06) there are concerns about security here. Several boats have suffered break ins during the winter and discussions are taking place between the marina management and boat owners with a view to improving matters. Internet Access - Yes, provided by DelfyNet. Other Marina Facilities, Services & Supplies - Toilets. Showers. Waste disposal. Used oil disposal. Boatyard Facilities & Services - Large boatyard with most repair facilities available. Volvo dealer. 110 tonne travel lift. 5 tonne crane. Owners can live aboard in the yard and do their own work on deck and within the yacht. Anything below deck level is handled by the yard. Mixed reports about the standard of work. I think owners who are present when the work is carried out are likely to get a better job. Shopping and Provisions - 1 supermarket and several smaller food shops within the marina. Large commercial centre and good shopping in El Ejido a 15 minute bus ride away. Bank or ATM - Several within the marina complex. Chandlers or Ships' Store - 3 within the marina. Butane/Camping Gaz/Propane - Bottled gas delivered to the marina on Fridays. Ice - Within the marina complex. Restaurants & Eating Out - Numerous bars and restaurants within the marina and on the beaches either side of the marina. The Menu del Dia at the Cafe Espignon on the eastern beach is good value for money. Transport - Bikes - Local Bus Service - to El Ejido Intercity Bus Service - From El Ejido to Almeria, Malaga, Grenada Taxis - Car Rental - Train Service - Airport(s) - Almeria. Malaga Local Area - Sporting & Recreational Facilities - Sightseeing - This part of the coast is covered with plastic greenhouses, it has to be seen to be appreciated both for the vast number of acres under cover and it's ugliness. Almeria is only 30 minutes away by road and the Alcazaba, a Moorish castle is well worth a visit. The city of Granada and the famous Alhambra can be seen in a days trip. As can the Alpujarras valley, with it's charming villages, towered over by the magnificent Sierra Nevada. The Parque Natural at Cabo de Gata has some stunning scenery. Museums and Cultural Attractions - Conservation Projects - Special Events - Children's Stuff - Other - Sandy beaches on either side of the marina.
