Puerto de Llafranc, Girona, Catalunya, Spain

General - Puerto de Llafranc is a marina built in an attractive Cala that has been used as a harbour since Phoenician times. It lies on the Costa Brava on the NE coast of Spain. Approach and entry need some care but there is good protection once inside. The area gets very busy in the summer and the harbour is sometimes full.

Position - 41º 53' N 3º 12' E

Charts - British Admiralty 1704 French 4827, 7008, 7505, 7298 Spanish 876, 492

Approach & Entrance;
From the south - The wooded Capo de Planas and the rocky Islas Hormigas can be recognised, yachts are best keeping to seaward of this rock. The wall of Puerto de Llafranc will be seen under Cabo San Sebastian.
From the north -
Cabo Begur with its conspicuous signal station and the deep calas of Aiguafreda, Aiguablava and Tamariu are all easily recognised. Cabo San Sebastian with its lighthouse, restaurant and ermita on its summit can be seen from afar. Puerto de Llafranc is on its far side.
To enter -
The bay should be entered on a NW course. Approach the head of the breakwater with care, round it leaving it 10m to starboard. Note the head extends out 5m underwater. Leave the line of red and white buoys to port and a further on at the head of the breakwater to starboard. There is not a lot of room for manoeuvre once inside so yachts should make preparations while outside where possible.

Berths - Stern to the inner side of the breakwater with a mooring buoy at the bow
