Penzance Harbour, Penzance, Cornwall, United Kingdom

General - Penzance Harbour lies on the eastern side on Penzance Bay in Cornwall in south west England. To the W lies Land's End and Cape Cornwall and to the E the Lizard. The harbour is used by commercial, fishing and pleasure craft.

Approach & Entrance - Penzance harbour should be approached on a course between 268ºT and 345ºT. The building of the town make identification of the harbour difficult. When approaching from the E look out for the tower of St Mary's church and the dome of Lloyds Bank. The wet dock has a lock gate open two hours before high water to one hour after. When the gate is open 3 vertical green lights are shown, when it is closed you will see three vertical reds There is sometimes a delay and holding buoys are located 150m due south of the lighthouse pier. Avoid going alongside the wall as it is in use charter boats, anglers and divers.

Hazards - Beware Cressars and Gear Rock (unlit). The harbour approach can be very dangerous in strong southerly weather. There are pot and net buoys in Mount's Bay. Keep clear if RMS Scillonian or other commercial shipping is entering or leaving the harbour.

Berths & Moorings - As directed by the berthing master. Visiting yachts may be rafted up by the harbourmasters office or alongside a fishing boat. It is possible to anchor in position 50º 06.1'N. 005º 31.5'W. 350 metres ENE of Albert Pier, clear of the fairway or a similar distance due south of the South Pier.
