General Info - Slovenia is situated in Central Europe at the crossroads of main European cultural and trade routes. It borders Italy to the west, Austria to the north, Croatia to the south and southeast and Hungary to the northeast. It's short coastline lays on the beuatiful Adriatic Sea.

Despite its length of just 45 kilometres, the coastline of Slovenia is very attractive with romantic bays and lovely small towns all steeped in a Venetian past. Slovenia is often called the "Riviera of the Adriatic" due to its mild climate. Combine all this with its friendly people and you will see why Slovenia is becoming a very popular yacht charter destination.

History - The current territory of Slovenia was part of many different state formations, including the Roman Empire and the Habsburg Monarchy. In 1918, the Slovenes exercised self-determination for the first time by co-founding the internationally unrecognized State of Slovenes, Croats, and Serbs, which merged into Yugoslavia. During World War II, Slovenia was occupied and annexed by Germany, Italy, Hungary, and Croatia, only to emerge afterwards as a founding member of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. In June 1991 Slovenia became an independent country.
